Spring Book Week 2022

Children’s Book Week, established in 1919, is not only a celebration of books, but of connection. This beloved program continues to grow and adapt each year with new resources and celebration ideas. This year, we invite classrooms and schools, public and school libraries, bookstores, and other organizations to host events during the week while also encouraging young people and families to celebrate at home. All are welcome to sign-up to participate and will receive two free Book Week posters by the amazing Raúl The Third. Locations who are hosting events can request additional posters to give to attendees while supplies last.

Celebrate with us May 2-8 in school, at your local library or bookstore, at home, online, and in whatever setting is appropriate for your community.

Slogan, Artists, and Materials

2021 CBW Poster.

Each year a slogan is created to shape materials and celebration ideas, and a beloved artist is chosen to exemplify that slogan in our official Children’s Book Week poster.

The 2022 slogan is How Do You Book? The theme asks participants to think about what they read, where they read, and how they read.

Award-winning author and illustrator Raúl The Third is the poster art creator!

The poster is now available for viewing and will be mailed out in April.

How Do You Book? Challenge

What do you read? Where do you read? How do you read?

2022 Challenge ActivityKids of all ages can participate on their own, with adults, or in groups to explore all the different ways they “book.” By completing activities in three categories, readers of all ages can pinpoint their reading preferences. Do you like to read inside or outside? In a chair or laying in bed? While listening to music or in silence? Do you love historical fiction or fantasy, memoir or STEAM books?

Materials will include a certificate and badge, some examples of how beloved book creators and public figures “book” and themed booklists. Kids who complete activities and create a visual representation of their discoveries (drawing, poem, short story, comic strip, song) can submit their finished project and receive a special message from a literary icon.

We cannot wait to see how kids book!
