Every Child a Reader is a 501(c)(3) charity that has garnered a GuideStar Platinum level non-profit rating, a grant from the National Book Foundation as an essential literacy charity, and an Eric Carle Honors Angel Award. Since 2008, Every Child a Reader has provided millions of young people, teachers, librarians, and parents with original and engaging programming and free educational materials that entertain and inform.

We manage three long-running and prestigious national reading campaigns:

  • Children’s Book Week is the twice-annual celebration of children’s books and reading. Established in 1919, it is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country, now celebrating its 105th anniversary with over 3,000 participating schools, libraries, and bookstores in all 50 states.
  • The National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature meets young people to spread the message that reading is a fun and important part of growth and happiness. Co-sponsored by the Library of Congress since 2008, the program selects a new National Ambassador every two years. The current ambassador is Meg Medina.
  • Get Caught Reading is a year-round national classroom and library poster campaign featuring role models such as authors, athletes, artists, and community leaders ‘caught reading’ a favorite book, now in its 25th year.
